The Mig – 21 Bison (NATO reporting name : Fishbed) is a supersonic interceptor designed by the Mikoyan-Gurevich Design Bureau in the Soviet Union. Bison is the longest serving fighter plane of the Indian Air Force since it’s induction to the IAF in 1963. The Mig – 21 was upgraded to Mig – 21 Bis variant in 1976 and further upgraded to the Mig – 21 Bison in 2000. The Bison was also used during the Air Defence reaction of IAF against PAF after the Balakot Strikes conducted by IAF in 2019, wherein the Generation 2 Bison aircraft shot down a Generation 4 F-16 aircraft of PAF.
